#2 Tape a dollar to a note on a vending machine.

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.”
– Henry James

I will admit, I woke up a bit excited this morning. With a slight spring in my step, I hopped all the way to work (and was even early, much to the surprise of many!).

I quickly realized that Mondays are never a good time – especially Mondays after a long weekend! I myself usually have to drink five coffees before anyone is allowed to speak to me.

So I decided to bestow the noblest of gifts upon my disgruntled colleagues: the gift of free caffeine.

I scribbled a quick note, stuck a dollar to it, snuck into the lunchroom and taped it onto the vending machine.

It was a quick job; I was pretty anxious about someone walking in on me. I envision myself as a sort of “kindness ninja” – not keen on explaining to my colleagues or friends about my “project.”

As the rest of my day went on, I glanced over at the vending machine as I casually strolled through the lunchroom. Finally, around 4:00 p.m., it was gone.

Total Kindness Cost: $1

  1. It’s a nice idea, for sure you surprised somebody. 🙂 I wanted to give you “like” but I don’t find it here, maybe you should check your settings

    • I have now added one. That you for pointing that out! 🙂

  2. “Kindness Ninja” … I love it! Someone must have hit that afternoon lull and decided a ‘caffeine pick me up’ was in order. I look forward to reading how you are spreading kindness in your part of the world!

    • Thanks! I appreciate the kind words and follow. I definitely hope it cheered someone up; I know caffeine always does the trick for me! 🙂

    • Thanks, mama! Appreciate you taking the time to drop a note and follow. 🙂

  3. Great idea! I’ll start a pay it forward experiment at work. I’ll leave a $1 bill every night that I work and I’ll see if anybody will actually do it.
    Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  4. Hello there, I was trying to find the “REBLOG” or “share” button for wordpress but I couldn’t. 🙁
I just started this last night. My plan is to leave a $1 bill with a note every night that I worked for at least a month but I tweaked it. I plan to leave it on the vending machine, in the fridge, the microwave, the coffee machine, the water cooler, somewhere in the nurses break room in different units all over the hospital and it will be anonymous. As I mentioned earlier, I plan it to be a “pay it forward” it forward thing. I hope it flies. My intention is for it to create a “ripple effect” all throughout the organization hoping it may lead to better quality patient care. I’ll see at the end of August. Wish me luck!
