Another work from home day today. They sound so glamorous in theory – but I have a suspicion I would become a slightly batty hermit lady (subsisting on a steady diet of ramen noodles and Cholula hot sauce) if I worked from home full-time.
While the whole world obsessed over Pokemon Go today, I scoured the internet for more lazy-girl solutions to today’s act of kindness. (After today, I promise to put pants on and go back into the world and resume being a real-life purveyor of good deeds.)
I eventually stumbled upon www.gofundme.com which enables people to raise money online for causes through crowdfunding. The website is super intuitive to use, allowing you to filter by category, popularity, location etc.,
As I started perusing through, I was taken aback by how many different stories were out there. People battling life-threatening diseases, athletes trying to get to Rio, families raising money for their children to go to college, Albertans trying to get their lives together after the recent tragic forest fires…the list is endless.
I started wondering how I was ever going to choose just one cause to support. You know when they say, “you just know when you know?” I’m a firm believer in this adage. And this is exactly what happened.
WordPress friends, meet Rootbeer, an 8-month old puppy who was the victim of a horrible hit-and-run, desperately requiring surgery for his two broken hips. The kind teacher who found him has been generous enough to pay as much as she can for his surgeries, but can only afford a portion of the required expenses. You can read more about Rootbeer’s story by clicking here (including the precious story about why he was named Rootbeer).
A huge dog lover and owner myself, this one tugged at my heartstrings most. Animal welfare is a cause that I care deeply about, and one that I will never hesitate to open my wallet and donate my time to. (I write this with my slightly overweight Cockapoo drooling on my leg.)
When I last checked, $4681 of the $5000 goal had been reached. I’m hoping that Rootbeer is out there somewhere getting prepped for his badass new hips!
Total Kindness Cost: $30
